PAT testing
Portable appliance testing for businesses of every kind across Derby and Nottingham, from single shops to multi-site organisations. Every item inspected, tested, labelled and logged.
What a PAT visit involves
Portable appliance testing is a combined visual inspection and electrical test of everything that plugs in. The visual inspection catches most real faults: damaged cables, cracked plugs, scorching, badly wired connections. The electrical test then checks earth continuity, insulation resistance and, where relevant, lead polarity and touch current.

Every appliance gets a numbered label with the test date, so anyone on site can see at a glance when it was last checked. Anything that fails is taken out of use, tagged, and reported to you with the reason, so you can decide whether to repair or replace.
What you receive
- A full asset register of every item tested, by room or department
- Pass and fail results with readings, not just a summary sheet
- A clear list of any items removed from service and why
- A recommended retest date for each class of equipment
Equipment we test regularly
IT equipment and monitors, kitchen appliances, extension leads and adaptors, workshop and DT equipment, laboratory equipment, cleaning equipment, portable heaters, medical devices, and stage and AV equipment in school halls.
Microwave emissions testing
Microwaves are the one kitchen appliance that can pass a standard PAT and still be unsafe, because a damaged door seal leaks radiation without affecting the electrical test. We can add an emissions test to your PAT schedule while we are on site. It is charged separately from the standard per-item rate, so tell us how many microwaves you have and we will quote for it up front.

How often should it be done?
There is no single legal interval. Office IT equipment is commonly tested annually. Equipment in harsher environments, on construction sites, or handled by the public may need testing more often. We will recommend intervals based on what we find and the environment it lives in.
How we price it
Pricing is a fixed rate per item, with the rate depending on volume and how spread out the site is. Multi-site organisations and repeat annual bookings get a better rate.
The rate is agreed before we start and does not change, so the cost is simply the rate multiplied by the number of items tested. There is no hourly charge and no day rate that stretches to fill the visit. If we find more appliances on site than you expected, you pay the same rate for them, and we will tell you the revised total before we carry on.
Mickleover Services have been providing PAT testing services for all of our care homes for some years now, and the service has been provided proficiently and we have never had the need to complain. Highly recommended.
